These programs are recommended to protect your PC from Viruses, Adware and Spybots. They're all freeware, and I use them on my own personal PC. Click on each link to download the installer:
Safari Web Browser - Use it because it's not Internet Explorer
Avast Anti Virus - Freeware (For Personal Use) Antivirus program
AdAware - Finds and removes adware that can slow down your PC
Spybot Search and Destroy - Finds and removes tracking software that lets companies track you on the internet.
Other rules to remember: If you don't recognize the person or company who sent you an email, or that pops up on a web page, do not click on it.
If you get an email notification from your bank or other institution that looks legitimate, DO NOT click the email link to get to the institution. Instead, go to the company's homepage and either find their support page, or call their phone number to ask for assistance.
